Mini Bear- Prophecy Girl (music video)

We have had nothing but love and admiration for LA-based Mini Bear after catching them crush a set in a random book store in Echo Park. The dreamy synth-pop group has held our attention as they continue to grow and evolve in their artistry, culminating in the upcoming release of their Mind Control EP. The best way to describe Mini Bear to a new listener would be “retro-futurism”. Many of their songs feel like they would settle nicely in the soundtrack for any classic 80’s Sci Fi/Fantasy flick.

We are having a tough time being patient for the EP release, but this awesome video just might be enough to tide us over. In an interview with Impose Magazine, frontwoman Lauren Kop explains “‘Prophecy Girl’ is a warm, rainbow haze of synth pop proportions written from the perspective of Buffy Summers. It explores the contradiction between romantic destiny and a cold future foreseen.”

The video is a dreamscape of layered-camera tricks, pixels, and geometric shapes–the perfect throwback vibe for the perfect throwback track. What’s even more impressive is that Kop actually handled all of these visuals herself in this video. Check it out below, and enjoy the nostalgic tip of the hat to the pop culture of yesteryear.

Mini Bear’s Mind Control EP is out on September 30th. It is available for preorder now.
